Mission and Vision

Did you know that we are a home schooling support and tuition centre using an internationally aligned syllabus?

Penhurst Academy offers an alternative to mainstream schooling.

Our Mission

The concept of open plan learning means that students are not confined to classrooms and have the freedom to learn in whatever way suits them.

At Penhurst Academy we use a 3-tiered guided approach to education:
  • Textbook learning
  • Online resources
  • Micro class tutoring sessions

A comprehensive Guidebook will provide the student with pointers to relevant textbook information as well as extensive online resources.

Guidance sessions with tutors, our dedicated subject guides, will provide students the time and space to enquire about anything they have not understood from the material contained within the Guidebook so that they get the answers they need.
Students will not be limited to working alone through material either, they are encouraged to work in groups on assignments and while studying.

All the research over the last few decades has shown that students learn better from their peers than they do from a teacher. They speak the same language.

We also know that modern students want access to online resources, so we provide these world-class facilities and the space to use them.

Students will be guided towards content on the web which they can access individually or in groups on any of the Academy’s various laptops and tablets.

A resource centre is also available to students with various textbooks, literature and magazines. Students are also welcome to download or buy their own books.

Education involves more than academics and we like our students to be involved in various artistic pursuits such as photography, dance, music and design as well as sports.

Our Vision

Academically we strive to offer a traditional, well-respected syllabus and qualification but with a modern interpretation more tailored to students of the 21st century.

Why teach the same was as they did in the 1950s? Research shows that this approach doesn’t work.

We envision our students having equal access to knowledgeable tutors or Subject Guides as we call them, online resources, as well as the syllabus required textbooks.

We have built and designed a curriculum that contains more knowledge about the world and has less of a focus on outdated schooling practises. Tutoring classes will be very small with plenty of individual attention.

We offer additional classes throughout the year on CV writing, nutrition and various other topics.
We want international standard academics, experiential and student-led learning, and resulting in world-class qualifications.

We offer a study centre which caters for the students who can’t be a part of the broken system we sit with.

Teens who are too bright, too different, too anxious, and too unconventional to be bound by a uniform and the rigidity of the school system. They need support, attention and enthusiasm which we offer in abundance.

We provide effective coaching and support for students who suffer from the emotional problems facing our youth today, and those who find that the mainstream schooling system does not work for them.

Depression and anxiety are the hallmarks of this generation
and it is our job as parents and educators to help them navigate the complexities of teenage hood and academics.

We never call a child stupid or lazy.

We always fully support and encourage our students to strive for a healthy balance in life.
We want to educate students in a manner that develops their critical thinking skills so that they do not just pass through this world without impact.

We want to educate teens so that they become adults who can effectively and fully identify problems, break them down and find constructive and effective solutions.

The academy is designed to help students learn to apply knowledge. They learn to engage with the tasks at hand under any circumstances and in any order. This means that they become not only more capable academically, but realistically too.

International Assessments and Examinations

We have chosen an international syllabus to affiliate with so that students work not only within a world-class framework but also gain a global perspective and qualifications. This puts our students on a par with students all over the world.
